Foot soldiers of any established military force. Some units are permanently assigned armored vehicles and termed Mechanized Infantry. Other units are equipped with jump-packs and designated Jump Infantry.

Consistently disrespected by Inner Sphere Mechwarriors, the advent of the Elemental brought infantry to the forefront once again.

Types & Sub-types of Infantry formations

Infantry formations are broken down to method of travel, size (21-28 men in an Innersphere platoon or 25 men in a Clan point) and weaponry used. Weaponry can be customized, however typical weapons are: (Rifle, Laser, Flamer, Machine Gun (MG), SRM (Short Range Missiles), MRM (Medium Range Missiles), or LRM (Long Range Missiles).)

The typical formations are:

  • Foot Infantry - Basic, infantry formation, hindered by slow movement, but capacable of doing considerable damage in urban and heavily forested areas.
    • Peasant Foot Infantry - non-military Civilian infantry, sub-type of Foot infantry, less damage capable, but cheaper in cost. The formation is with rifles.[1]
  • Hover Bike Infantry - Introduced after the Jihad, these are highly mobile troops are typically armed with either lasers or machine guns. Capable of moving five hexes.[2]
  • Motorized Infantry - Slightly faster than traditional infantry due to being equipped with unarmoured light or ultra light wheeled vehicles. Motorized Infantry units have the capability of towing Field Guns.
  • Mechanized Infantry - This includes sub-types of formations - including Hover, Tracked, Wheeled. These are fastest of all infantry formations, compariable to vehicles, but vulerable to heavy damage. Tracked Mechanized Infantry units have the capability of towing Field Guns.
  • Jump Infantry - These troops are equipt with rocket packs that allows the troops to "jump" to any location they choose. Prior to Clan arrival in the 31st Century, these troopers were considered the elite of infantry formations.
