Maya Freeburg was the commanding officer of the Eighteenth Marik Militia during Anton's Revolt.[1]

History[edit]

General Freeburg commanded the Eighteenth Marik Militia on behalf of Anton Marik's rebels and, in late 3014, arrived on New Olympia alongside the Fifth Ducal Guard in order to secure it for Anton. While most of New Olympia was easily pacified, the staff and students of the Allison MechWarrior Institute and Lloyd Marik-Stanley Aerospace School decided to resist Freeburg's invasion. While undermanned and ill-equipped to defeat the Eighteenth Militia, the trainees and trainers were familiar with New Olympia's terrain and prepared the New Greenland Mountain Range for a determined defense. Freeburg's initial aerospace strikes were beaten off by the pilots of the LMS School and the ground attack targeted at the cadets' airfield was met with such fierce resistance from the Allison MechWarriors that it took an entire week to push the defenders back to the airfield. After spending an additional two days of fighting to take the airfield, Freeburg's own air support was destroyed by a cadet force that had traveled through a mountain pass known only to them.[1]

After yet another week of heavy ground fighting, the cadets were left with only four lances of 'Mechs but the arrival of the Twenty-first Centauri Lancers spelled doom for Freeburg's hopes of taking the planet. Rather than face the fresh mercenary regiment, Freeburg elected to retreat her troops to Drusibacken.[1] When the Eighteenth Militia was caught on Emris IV by the Sixth and Eighth Orloff Grenadiers in 3015, only three companies survived to retreat to New Delos.[2]

When the wrathful Wolf's Dragoons came to New Delos in order to kill Anton Marik, only the last remnants of the Eighteenth Militia and the First, Second, and Fifth Ducal Guards stood in their way. While a combination of scorched earth tactics and automated defenses kept the mercenaries at bay, a near-suicidal rear attack from Captain Natasha Kerensky broke through to Anton's command center. The following three-day long marathon of destruction left Anton dead, the Eighteenth Militia destroyed, and the city of Cienfuegos demolished. Freeburg's final fate is not recorded.[3]
