Oskar Kurunta was the commanding officer of the Seventh Donegal Guards as of 2788.[1]

History[edit]

Colonel Kurunta claimed to be descended from a king of the ancient Terran Hittite civilization, which often caused fights between him and other officers that slowed his career progress to a crawl. When the Seventh Donegal Guards were reformed, Kurunta was finally given a regimental command, although both the soldiers of the Seventh Guards and Kurunta himself lacked real combat experience. While Kurunta was no stranger to warfare, his less-than-stellar personality caused him to be rotated through units very frequently and prevented him from acquiring any specialties to pass on to his troops. Rather than try to give the Seventh Guards a sense of identity himself, Kurunta instead tasked his subordinate officers with imbuing the troops with a sense of espirit de corps.[1]

While Kurunta's eagerness to fight was seen as a redeeming quality for a frontline military officer, his inability to back down from a losing battle proved to be disastrous when the Seventh Guards were sent to raid Tyrfing in 2788. Kurunta's leadership caused the Seventh Guards to take more casualties than any other Lyran Commonwealth force facing similar opposition had at that stage of the First Succession War and Kurunta's reputation for not caring about the men under his command was solidified.[1]

BattleMechs[edit]

Colonel Oskar Kurunta piloted a Thunderbolt BattleMech named Hittite Rising.[1]
