Richard Donovan' was a Colonel in the Eridani Light Horse 11th Recon battalion, and the one which managed to keep alive a part of the Eridani Light Horse in the Dark Age Era.[1]

History
When most of the Eridani Light Horse regiments aprticipated on Task Force Serpent to Huntress, Richard was the most senior ELH commander to not accompany them, left behind outlining plans to rebuild the ELH if they did not return.[2]
This was under orders of the ELH's leader,Lieutenant General Ariana Winston, in case the unit was annihilated, so he can rebuild it from scratch. She even had left huge sums of money in banks of the Lyran CommonWealth, ComStar and the Federated Suns. These precautions proved innecesary during the expedition, but not in the Word of Blake Jihad, when the ELH was really annihilated.[3]
Richard's unit, the 11th Recon battalion, of the 151st Striker Regiment was the only part of the ELH to survive the Jihad active. However, Donovan didn't manage to access the funds due to legal concerns: without proof than every regiment of the ELH had been destroyed -and with the Wars of Reaving cuting the Clan Homeworlds from the Inner Sphere that was imposible to do- he died before was able to win at the courts.
Legacy
He was succeeded by Major Dariah Sayler which only managed keeping the 11th active. After she step down from command, was succeeded by Richard's daughter, Amelia Donovan. She was the one which finally achieved to access the funds and resurrect the ELH.[4]
