Katana?

Errr, that sword does not look like a katana, a katana is not a Chinese sword, is there proof that its really a katana? RagTag 21:24, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Hy I jump in, i think it is not a Katana, it looks like a saber, but is definitly not a Katana.Doneve 21:33, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
it looks like a Saif or Tulwar, but those are Arabic weapons... so its probably some form of Dao like Damdao or Niuweidao or something. RagTag 21:41, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
your right, i think it is a adopted variant, but i can't find every reference in the sources.Doneve 22:01, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
I would suggest using the generic term "sword" rather than trying to use a specific name that not everyone might be familiar with. --Peregry 22:56, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
Field Manual: Capellan Confederation, pg. 61: "The order's crest is a stellar field with a shining dadao sword hanging overhead like a crescent moon." Whether or not Crescent Moon, specifically, is a katana or dadao, I cannot answer because I do not own the novel that is cited as the source of the information. --Scaletail 00:11, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
So we go with Sword right? Seems fair to me! RagTag 10:45, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
When I wrote the article I used the word "katana" because Crescent Moon is explicitly described as a "katana sword" in the only source describing the item, the novel Binding Force (pg. 24). Also, the Hiritsu guards in the scene are said to wield "katanas". Whether or not the sword depicted in the House Crest is meant to be Crescent Moon is pure speculation however; I am not aware of any notion anywhere to support this. Well, if its a "canonical mistake", who are we to correct it? :D RagTag 11:08, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
