Talk:Hanya No Cha

Revision as of 17:12, 17 August 2008 by Frabby (talk | contribs) (About the three example characters)

Since there is very little info, would anybody object if I move this to Capellan Confederation/Minor Characters? --Scaletail 18:04, 6 July 2008 (CDT)

Accompanied with a section redirect, I would have no problem.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:31, 6 July 2008 (CDT)
...which brings us back to the discussion we had at Policy Talk:Notability. Is she more or less important/notable than, say, Jerry Akuma, Grig Griez or Joshua Wolf (all of whom have their own articles, and still are listed in)? I don't see why she was taken out of that Category. I agree she's a minor charakter but hardly a not-noteworthy charakter. Frabby 08:16, 17 August 2008 (CDT)
She has zero face time. Heck, I didn't even know her name until you created this article. I don't even know if she's dead or alive in 3067. I think she may be a sort of middle ground that I alluded to in the most recent discussion on character notability that suggests there may be more than two categories of characters. She may be a character of medium importance: still worthy of her own article, but not a major character. --Scaletail 08:30, 17 August 2008 (CDT)
I respectfully disagree with you, Scaletail, on her 'middle ground' role. I'd see her clearly as a minor character, until further developed. Even if she did get face time in an article, I think in my "movie poster" test, her actor would not make it. However, if she became a central character with action and/or dialogue that created a major story line, I'd gladly bump her from minor to major league. But, as much as I am loathe to admit it, maybe there is call for a middle category. She's definitely more important to the 'verse than, say, Rupert Masterson. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 10:22, 17 August 2008 (CDT)
Whatever we do with this article, I do not believe she is a major character. For a simple reason why this character is minor compared with the three you named, Frabby, look at the size of the respective articles. I would argue that all three are minor, but that makes it obvious to me why this one was chosen ahead of the others. --Scaletail 14:35, 17 August 2008 (CDT)
While I do agree that she is a minor character, we have considerably more information on her than on some regimental commanders from TOEs who are nothing more than a name tag to a position. If she was mentioned in only one source then I would agree on putting the little info available into the Minor Characters list and into Tormana Liao's article, but in this case she is mentioned by name in at least two sources and referred to in a third. I felt this was enough coverage to warrant an article. In fact I could live with this whole article being merged into the Minor Characters list. But retaining the article and adding a "Category:Minor Characters" tag is a third way between "minor" and "not minor" that I strongly feel we should not go.
Scaletail, about the three other examples: These are also minor characters. Joshua Wolf is almost the exact same case as Hanya No Cha, having no screen time and being referred to on the sidelines of several sources, albeit never directly. The other two articles may be longer because I wrote more, but essentially both appear in only one single source and there is no further information on them. I think they are good examples to show why article length is unsuitable to determine wether or not a character is important. Frabby 15:49, 17 August 2008 (CDT)
