Brunel
Hi! I see that you uploaded a picture of the Brunel Dump Truck (LRM). I can add the required image summary template for you, but I need to know the source of the image. Artist, too, if known. Thank you. --Cache (talk) 18:24, 13 June 2021 (EDT)
- Hi Cache. The image was a gift from Sippy the Mead Monk of the Black Pants Legion. We both agreed that the Brunel LRM needed some love and so this artwork was born. --Foxy-Of-Many-Lives (talk) 02:46, 14 June 2021 (GMT)
- Unfortunately, we have a policy forbidding fanon/fan art on the wiki. All fan creations should be put on the BattleTech Fanon Wiki instead.--Cache (talk) 07:30, 14 June 2021 (EDT)
- I would have hopped that the image would be allowed under the provision that there is an absence of cannon/official art, and that it helps to explain the LRM retrofit of the vehicle. I'm aware that Sippy is the artist but in the absence of him having an account we agreed I would create an account to add it. I am, however, new to editing wikis and still learning the correct way to add and tag content. I also understand that it may nit be possible to make the exception based on the fact that I upload the image and not Sippy. Foxy-Of-Many-Lives (talk) 09:07, 14 June 2021 (EDT)
- Morning, Foxy-Of-Many-Lives. I saw the exchange here in Recent Changes and thought I'd weigh in. I don't want to discourage you from editing nor have you think you're being targeted. However, along with the Fanon policy Cache cited, we also have an images policy that we had to initiate a few years back, when we purposefully separated this wiki's mission from including fanon material (and as someone who was also posting fanon stuff of my own, it was something I had to be convinced was necessary). Your rationale is certainly on-target: the LRM dump isn't meant to highlight/advertise Sippy or his portfolio, but to provide elaboration on a canon vehicle that has no identifying artwork. However, the average viewer may think that the vehicle (as depicted by Sippy) was an accurate representation for a vehicle that actually has no canon visuals. What we don't want people to do is have to determine if something they read (or view) here is based on opinion, but know that it is canon.
- This policy allows the few admins we have to focus on other areas that may require more detailed attention, by de-authorizing any images that did not originate with CGL (or any other publisher). Exceptions may be made when it can be argued it enhances an understanding of a canon subject area, but those subject areas tend to be broad in scope (such as rank images), and they are always prominently marked as non-canon.
- It is a cool perspective, though. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 09:28, 14 June 2021 (EDT)
