Barum Diaz was a Freeborn warrior of Clan Wolf and one of the first-generation members of Wolf's Dragoons.[1]

Barum Diaz was recruited to join Wolf's Dragoons' expedition to the Inner Sphere as part of Delta Regiment. She fought at the Battle of New Aragon, where she was charged for an unknown offense and put to jail along with three other MechWarrior from Delta, included Austen Roderick. On 11 April, Delta's new leader, Major Sarah Weisz, told them that, in place of execution, they would be transferred to Zeta Battalion under the unit's leader, Colonel Frank Wells.
The same day, Barum Diaz was part of an assault lance which led Zeta's attack through El Diablo Pass under Roderick's orders. They engaged and faced a recon lance of Waco Rangers and crushed them. When they had already made it through the pass, she saw a Rangers Stinger running. She moved to intercept, ignoring that it was attempting to save a downed pilot, and unable to see him due to the smoke of the fires ignited by the Rangers, Diaz stepped on him, killing the lieutenant instantly.
New Aragon was a victory for the Dragoons, but Diaz ignored that her accidental victim wasn't just anyone: it was John Waco, the only son of Wayne Waco, commanding officer of the Rangers. For his son's death, he made his unit swear a Death Oath against the Dragoons, which would last for years, until culminating in the Rangers' suicide attack against the Dragoons, the First Harlech.[1]
