BattleTechWiki:2010 Founder's Awards

2010 Founder's Awards[edit]

I am deeply honored to be a part of this community. It's amazing what such a dedicated group of people can accomplish when they have their heart set on contributing to a hobby that they love. I will never been unable to match any of you in terms of your contributions or editing of articles, but I'm always aware of what's going on and am endlessly amazed at what's being created. Thank you, everyone, for what you've created. Nicjansma 05:20, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

2010 Nominations[edit]

Please post your nominations for the various Founder's awards here for discussion. Post not only the Editor's or Admin's name, but also why you feel that person should be the awardee. Nominations will close on the 16th of January, with Nicjansma announcing after he has made his decisions. Negative responses are not solicited, as these are only for nominations.

Four out of the five Founder's Awards are up for nomination; the Founder's Consistent Service Award is completely left up to Nic. The criteria/descriptions of the awards can be found here.

Please post your nominations under the appropriate sub-heading.

Founder's Outstanding Member of the Year Award[edit]

  • I nominate both User:Revanche and User:Scaletail for providing steady, high-quality contributions. They're the two longest-serving yet still active members, clearly among the cornerstones (or is that bedrock) of this community. Frabby 11:20, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I'd like to second these nominations. Either (or both) members are worthy recipients.--Mbear 13:16, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I nominate Frabby for truly meeting consistent and logical service to the community. A long-time Editor and an Admin for well over two years, of the Admins he's been present non-stop (from my perspective). He can be counted upon to play a logical devil's advocate and is often the voice of reason, tamping down any spark of conflict before it can flare.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:13, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I further nominate Mbear as another Outstanding Member of Sarna. Based on his actions as an Editor, he was selected by the Admins to join them in overseeing the site and since then he too has been a constant presence, getting both involved in discussions and planning to improve the site, as well as being a force of nature when it comes to editing. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:13, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I also nominate User:Scaletail (or second it, anyway) for the Founder's Outstanding Member of the Year Award. He has a long-term presence here (4 years now) and his knowledge and critique of policies have been put to great use here, especially in the past year. He has had to play the 'hammer' in a few instances that solicited unwarranted responses, but his actions were justified and necessary. I think the intent of the Outstanding Member award is to recognize those that don't perfectly fit into any one category or -when overshadowed in specific areas- should be recognized for the overall and continuing efforts. I see awardees of this ribbon to be those who's absence would be felt and Scaletail definitely meets that marker. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:13, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I nominate User:Revanche. Rev not only makes tremendous contributions to the articles, he also guides newer editors (myself included), helping them produce and edit quality work in a positive fashion. He has facilitated positive discussion on the future direction of the wiki. When I think of who is "leading" our motley little band of from the Periphery, Rev earns my vote for "Pirate King". :) 23:42, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • Hy i nominate User:Revanche. I can talk the same thing what ClanWolverine 101 talk, but i nominate hime, for teache me to bring me step by step in the "Unfinishedbook Project", (some steps are missing...but Rev do this, when he has time:).--23:59, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I'd like to nominate User:Revanche as well. His hard work and dedication to the site should be honored. -- Wrangler 00:48, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Founder's Superior Editor of the Year Award[edit]

  • I nominate both User:ClanWolverine101 and User:Mbear for their high-quality edits. While other editors often take a quantity-over-quality approach, they created several well-researched articles and, more importantly, are among the few community members to make an effort in copyediting and improving other articles. Frabby 11:20, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I'd nominate User:ClanWolverine101 and User:Doneve for always being there with the image.--Mbear 13:16, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I'll nominate User:Doneve. Not just for the INCREDIBLE volume, but like Mbear said, always there with an image. ClanWolverine101 23:42, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I would like to nominate User:Mbear and User:Doneve. They both have done great strives in building and working up the site. -- Wrangler 00:50, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I'm not sure why I've allowed myself to forget this one: Cyc. Like ClanWolverine101, Cyc has demonstrated a strong ability to write nicely crafted articles, but he is on here consistently, rarely missing more than a day, working to improve articles one edit at a time. Not particularly vocal, he may not acknowledge any award, but he does deserve the recognition nonetheless.

Founder's Superior Writer of the Year Award[edit]

late addition; ribbons to be uploaded soon
  • My first nomination is for ClanWolverine101. His articles are solidly researched and he strives -hard- to meet all policy expectations. Due to that consistency of effort, his articles are often at the 95% point when he first releases them into the 'wilds' of Sarna. Solid Writer. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:46, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
I support ClanWolverine101's nomination here. He may not be as prolific as others, but the stunning quality of his articles is top notch. Frabby 09:28, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
  • My next nomination is for Wrangler. He too seeks out the information, really intent on locating the original sources or the clarification from Catalyst writers, being responsible for a large number of information-gathering posts in the interaction forums. His efforts to improve his grammar structure are noted and he has an incredible breadth of subjects on which he has contributed. While I don't have the metrics to back it, I'd hazard a guess that a large number of the new articles of 2010 with substantial information in them were started by Wrangler.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:46, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
  • Doneve is another Writer-researcher that has added tremendous amount of information, in my opinion to articles that were but empty of any useful data to a reader until he found them. He data-mines a source title and adds that information directly to articles (whether they existed previously or not) and works hard to meet the standards expected of a native English speaker (which he is not). A Writer worthy of recognition.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:46, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
  • Frabby gets props for his work chronicling the many battles of Hesperus II. ClanWolverine101 18:15, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
I would like nominate Frabby as well, he is a superior writer and writes in great depth. -- Wrangler 15:22, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Founder's Exceptional Ambassador of the Year Award[edit]

  • Drawing a blank here. Most registered editors here are active on as well. The BattleTech community at large seems to be increasingly aware of BTW, and using it as a reference. Some detractors will always dismiss a wiki for being a wiki, of course, and there's no denying that the massive quantity of articles here includes some with quality issues. The best "Ambassador" for BTW, in my opinion, is he who strives to improve BTW with good quality articles and edits, to further establish it as the BT site to check for... anything BT, really. Frabby 11:20, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I can't think of anyone I'd nominate for this award.--Mbear 13:16, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I nominate Frabby, though the award's most well-spoken detractor, for the role he has played in keeping the wiki fresh in the minds of users at The various threads he either maintains or participates in casually mention as being valuable for wiki research and his defense of the project is consistently above board and non-emotional (and non-cynical, which I myself need to improve upon). While the award itself may not need to be awarded in the future, I think its validity to the CBT community has been well-supported and -promoted by Frabby. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:13, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I nominate User:Revanche for the same reasons as above: "Rev not only makes tremendous contributions to the articles, he also guides newer editors (myself included), helping them produce and edit quality work in a positive fashion. He has facilitated positive discussion on the future direction of the wiki. When I think of who is "leading" our motley little band of from the Periphery, Rev earns my vote for "Pirate King". :") 23:42, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Founder's Honorable Mention Award[edit]

  • I nominate User:Nicjansma. He's running the show on the technical real-world side, provides the hosting, laid all the groundwork, and was humble enough not to nominate himself for an award so far. Frabby 11:20, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • Seconded.--Mbear 13:16, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I nominate Doneve for this award. His high levels of research and data entry have added value to many otherwise lackluster articles and his efforts had really improved to the point that they rarely need editing to meet established and accepted standards. His datamining has resulted in a lot of unit articles having information (such as deployments and references) that should be standard across the board. He's also enthusiastic in regards to taking correction from others and incorporating that new direction into improving his further efforts. He has also had good ideas to improve the value of the various template infoboxes and remained involved in those improvements. There's no doubt, too, that many an article has been improved by his images.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:13, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I also nominate ClanWolverine101 for this award. Actually, I write this with a bit of jealousy, for he has written from scratch more than a few articles with such depth of content and in keeping with the various policies, that the editing of these articles have been a breeze and the articles provide an instant download of valuable content. His writing is pure, in the sense that he makes himself an expert on whatever subject he tackles and the ease in which it is read makes me excited to step away from my editing 'responsibilities' and get back to doing what he /is/ doing. A strong candidate for this award.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:13, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
    • While I agree with regards to the reasons you give, these (for me) were the reason to suggest him for the "Superior Editor of the Year" award instead; ClanWolverine101 clearly deserves either or both of these by virtue of his quality edits and articles so if he doesn't get the SEotY I second the Honorable Mention nomination. Frabby 23:20, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I nominate ClanWolverine for his high quality copyedits, and his superb caracter articles in the Wolf's Dragoons, and House Kurita section.--Doneve 23:59, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I nominate Wrangler for his tremdos minor character arcticles...and other stuff, and fill up some red linked tags on the wiki.--Doneve 00:51, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I'd like to nominate User:Nicjansma for his behind scenes work he been doing for the site. His dedication to maintaining and up keeping the site while other do normal edits should be noticed for work it is. If weren't for him, there be no site to begin with. Recent re-shuffling of images and pdfs files being example how he worked closely with casual editors like myself to transfer article information into better storage format, while making sure articles didn't get cut off from their reference sources. I would like to see him at least get this award. -- Wrangler 00:55, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
