Project Achilles was a top-secret Star League research project located in the Periphery. One of many such research facilities located throughout known space that was established during First Lord Nicholas Cameron's reign so great minds would not be required to relocate to Terra. This diffusion would also prevent their capture by Amaris forces during the Star League Civil War. Project Achilles was shuttered and sealed, with most of the staff departing in Operation EXODUS. Aleksandr Kerensky reasoned that when the SLDF returned, such bases would benefit them.[1]
In 3049, a Clan Ghost Bear Star Commander Swahla discovered information in old Star League records that Project Achilles was located within the Elysian Fields. After informing his commander—Star Captain Edwin Gilmour of the 312th Assault Trinary (Silver Kodiaks), 1st Bear Guards—of the information she had found, Star Captain Gilmour bid his entire Trinary for the right to invade these worlds. His bid was unopposed since most other commanders saw the pacifistic agriculturists of Elysian Fields as unlikely to provide them with martial honors.[1]
Their search of Manaringaine, Nyserta, and Elissa revealed nothing. Enraged, Edwin Gilmour challenged Swahla to a Trial of Grievance, killing him.[1]

Project Achilles is likely a nod to the apocryphal BattleTechnology article "Achilles, The Clan Stopper" and the accompanying ACH-09S Achilles Technical Readout which occurred in an Earthwerks facility in the coreward Periphery that had been out of contact since the fall of the Star League.[2]
