The Nineteenth Cavalry Regiment was a regiment of the Second Star League Defense Force. It was a part of the famed Eridani Light Horse.

Historical Background[edit]

In 2702, the Star League Defense Force's 3rd Regimental Combat Team, consisted of four regiments - the 19th and 21st Striker Regiments and the 71st and 151st Light Horse Regiments.[1][2] Once the unit learned of Stefan Amaris's treachery, the 3rd RCT, better known as the Eridani Light Horse, decided to act independently against the Usurper. Colonel Ezra Bradley, the Light Horse's commander, realized that a direct assault against Amaris would not be possible, so he adopted a policy of raiding some of the weaker worlds near Terra to disrupt the Usurper's defenses. The plans worked until the 19th Striker Regiment assaulted Amity. Unbeknownst to the Light Horse, a traitor had relayed information to Amaris and the 19th Striker met three heavy regiments. The 19th Striker was completely destroyed in the ensuing battle. The Light Horse was able to avenge the loss of the 19th Striker with a series of vicious battles that eventually resulted in Light Horse joining the liberation of Terra itself.[3][4] In the chaos that followed the elimination of Amaris, the Light Horse returned to the Rasalhague district awaiting orders from General Kerensky. The unit received orders to join the other Star League Defense Forces in leaving the Inner Sphere. The unit felt an attachment to the area stronger than its loyalty to Kerensky and decided to remain.[5] The Eridani Light Horse turned mercenary to survive, and thus lacked the resources to rebuild the 19th Striker Regiment for the next three centuries.[6]

Formation[edit]

Following the success of Task Force Serpent in defeating Clan Smoke Jaguar on their homeworld of Huntress, the Eridani Light Horse, like the rest of the new SLDF, was overwhelmed by new recruits. [7]. Therefore, in March 3061 Lieutenant General Edwin Amis decided to bring the Eridani Light Horse back to full strength for the first time in nearly three hundred years. [6][7] General Amis decided not to rebuild the 19th Striker, which the Light Horse had memorialized since its destruction. [8][9] But General Amis wanted the new regiment to have ties to the 19th Striker, so he designated the unit the 19th Cavalry Regiment and gave it the nickname "The Equine Phoenix". The unit’s insignia is a flaming bronco on a yellow disc.[6]

Capellan-St. Ives War[edit]

In late 3061, the unit was sent by Victor Ian Steiner-Davion as peacekeepers to assist the St. Ives Compact in the Capellan-St. Ives War. Despite their assistance, the Compact eventually fell against the Capellan Confederation in 3063.[10] By 3067, the 19th Cavalry Regiment had been expanded from two to three full combined-arms battalions. [11]

Jihad[edit]

At the outbreak of the Jihad, the 21st Striker and 19th Cavalry regiments were based at Fortress Dieron. The 21st Striker and 19th Cavalry regiments were trapped on Dieron by a Word of Blake blockade. Trapped in Fort Winston they were at ground zero for the Blakist assault. Approximately 90% of each regiment and the base were destroyed by tactical nuclear strikes. A few members of the 19th Cavalry and the Pathfinders special operations unit survived and, with the Ghosts of the Black Watch, evacuated Hohiro Kurita from Dieron in 3070.[12]

Officers[edit]

Rank Name Command
Commanding Officers of the 19th Cavarly Regiment
