History

Formation

Fourth Succession War

In the Fourth Succession War all regiments of McCarron's Armored Cavalry except for the 1st were stationed on Menke. They later fought along campaign to defend Sarna but had to retreat off world as Davion reinforcements arrived in the end phase of the war. [1]

Andurien/Canopus Invasion

In 3050 the Fifth MAC was stationed on Relevow.[2]

Operation Guerrero

Operation Bulldog

Xin Sheng Campaign

The transition from mercenary to House unit was hardest for Kyp's Kommando. There was some resistance to the idea of giving up the mercenary heritage. This dissatisfaction led to a massive brawl between the members of the Little Richard's Panzer Brigade and the MAC. This barracks brawl eventually escalated to include several 'Mech units as the Panzer Brigade members vented their envy over the MAC being made a House unit.[3]

Jihad

As of early 3067, the 5th was stationed on Masterson.[4] As part of Operation Thunderbolt 5th Armored Cavalry drove the 5th Crucis Lancers off of Aldertaine. After suffering heavy losses, they relocated to St. Ives to rebuild.[5]

During the Jihad the Fifth broke into smaller formations and struck at targets of opportunity in the Capellan March and Blakist Protectorate. They reunited and garrisoned Sian when the Red Lancers and Warrior House Imarra were sent off-world. In 3077 they were sent to take the world of Halloran V. After that was finished, they returned to Sian.[6]

Officers

The Fifth MAC was commanded by Colonel Victor MacBride in 3050.[2] As of 3063 the commanding officer was Sang-shao Kyp Marloe.[3] He was still in command in 3067 as to 3085.[4][7]

Tactics

The unit is well trained in defensive maneuvers and every opponent must pay a high price to get ground from them.[3]

- To increase their loyalty rating, Kyp's Commando focused on improving their BattleMech assets. The Air Guard and Special Forces unit resented this, with the Air Guard nearly mutinying against their unit. Sang-shao Marloe responded by completely disbanding the Air Guard, sending some pilots to other McCarron's units, retiring them, or sending them to serve as instructors in the Capella War College.[10]

Despite these setbacks, the unit's BattleMech regiment and armor corps were at full strength. The Special Forces unit lost approximately 15% of its troops.[4]
