History
The Fifth Wolf Cavalry Cluster was formed in 3058 from warriors who failed their initial Trial of Position and tested into lower castes. When the unit was formed after the Refusal War these trueborns were permitted to Trial again, and successfully entered the ranks of the garrison forces. The remainder of the unit consisted of freeborn warriors, but as of 3059 there was no friction between the two groups.[1]
In 3059 the unit was used to garrison both Butte Hold and Sigurd.[2] In 3067 they were the garrison for Grant's Station.[3]
The Steel Vipers' Alpha Galaxy attacked Grant’s Station in April 3071, a vicious dogfight broke out as a Trinary of Wolf aerospace fighters and DropShips sallied against the incoming Viper DropShips, destroying two. Only three Wolf fighters survived. The Wolves ground forces employed a rolling defensive line utilising their vehicles and Elementals. However with the arrival of Clan Goliath Scorpion's Mu Galaxy they withdrew from combat. The Scorpions and the Vipers clashed and the already weakened Vipers were forced to retreat. The Scorpions then challenged the Wolves for their enclave. Star Colonel Derin Wolf was killed in this engagement and the surviving thirteen Wolf warriors were offered hegira and left for Tranquil.[4]
Officers
In 3059 the commanding officer was Star Colonel Berlitz,[1] he was still in command in 3067.[3] Star Colonel Derin Wolf had taken over by 3071.[4]
