Description

The Assassin is a 'Mech that began life because of corporate ambitions and successful lobbyists that thankfully turned out to be an asset on the battlefield. Originally designed by Maltex Corporation to compete against the lighter Wasp and Stinger designs the Assassin was purchased by the SLDF after Maltex was able to successfully lobby for contracts for the 'Mechs production although there was no need at the time to replace the Wasps and Stingers in the Star League's arsenal. With a top speed of 118.8kph and a jumping distance of 210 meters the Assassin is a superb reconnaissance 'Mech and light 'Mech hunter in its own right and is a valued resource in any force.

Armament

The Assassin carries a mix of long and close range weapons. For an extended reach on the battlefield the Assassin carries a Holly LRM 5 to harass enemies from afar. When the ranges are closed though the Assassin can switch to its Martell Medium Laser for striking power and a Holly SRM 2 to attempt to capitalize on any breaches in the enemy's armor.

Variants

  • ASN-30 - The 30 variant of the Assassin is a radical departure from the classic formula for the 'Mech. The Chassis has been redesigned to utilize Endo Steel construction and the engine has been upgraded to a Light Fusion engine. The saved weight was used to upgrade the Medium Laser to an extended range version and the LRM and SRM are removed in favor of an LB-X Autocannon 5. Additionally the armor has been upgraded by two full tons and the Heat Sinks are now double strength versions.
  • ASN-101 - The 101 Assassin sacrifices sixty meters of the 'Mechs immense jumping distance and a half ton of armor for a more powerful close range punch with three additional Small Lasers that have been added in various locations on the 'Mech.
