Brian Cameron (Born 2351 - Died 2403)[1] House Cameron nobility, diplomat, and 5th Director-General of the Terran Hegemony.

History

Early Life & Career

Second oldest of Margaret Cameron's children, Brian grew up to become a diplomat. During his mother reign, he acted as Hegemony's ambassador to the Draconis Combine. There he saw first hand, kind of people they were. Despite their then leader Nihongi Kurita, peaceful rule, his experience with them lead him to believe be matter of time before people of the Combine would turn back to war.[2]

The Scandalous Affair

In 2382, Brian's mother retired from Director-Generalship of Hegemony, she appointed her older brother Raymond as her successor. After the High Council approved, his brother was installed as leader of the Hegemony.

During his brother focus hard on keep the Hegemony secrets safe from other interstellar nations. However, he attention to state lead to his wife, Katherine McQuiston, begin affair with him. This five year secret affair would be exposed when Katherine become pregnant with his child in late 2387.

Raymond, who through the years had become more emotionally erratic, had Brian arrested. It was believed by nearly everyone in the Hegemony that he would tried and sentenced with Treason. The Hegemony's High Council attempted to convince his brother to change his mind, but he would not be swayed. However, shortly after the meeting, Brian's brother would be found dead in Halls of Justice. Doctors would soon announce examining the body, that Raymond had died from a massive coronary induced by his medications.[3]

With his brother's death, High Council scrambled to stabilize the situation. Suspicion led general public believing Brian was responsible for Raymond death, that it was assassination. Other half of the public felt that he had nothing to do with it, charges should be dropped. Shortly after his brother's death, his son would be born, Richard.

High Council found that none of the Cameron relatives were fit to rule, needing bring stability to the situation. The High Council then installed Mitchell DuKirl, son of a former Terran Congress president, as Director-General Pro Tem until situation could be resolved. The decision to install a non-Cameron as ruler, even temporary, proved to be hotly sensitive topic.

The councilors then proceeded in diving find what cause later Director-General's death. They used rambling inserts from Raymond's diary as evidence to submit to Hegemony's Supreme Court as evidence against Brian. The court threw out the diaries entries since it was too weak have trial with. The councilors then published their findings to the public in hopes their evidence would find traction with the people and aide Brian's plight. The evidence of mad rambling of Raymond's diary proved save Brian Cameron, proving his innocence in his brother's death. Public came to view that Brian's only crime was his affair with his brother's wife.

Two months after his brother's death and incarceration, he was nominated and voted in as Director-General of Terran Hegemony by slim margin.[4]

As Director-General of the Terran Hegemony

Creation of the Castle Brian

His reign as Director-General would be noted for build up of Hegemony's military. Brian's years of the Ambassador to House Kurita, showed him that it was only matter time before their interstellar neighbor would return to ways of war. At his direction, he had series of massive military complexes to be built on border worlds along Draconis Combine. These massive fortresses would be his method of keep enemy from controlling the planet, once they invaded. Events of the Inner Sphere, show that massive conflict was coming and no one argued the tremendous expensive building these installations. These massive facilities would later be named after Brian, the Castle Brian.[5]

The Succession Bill of 2392

Years after being installed as Director-General, Brian never forgot trouble that lead to his ascendance. He then introduced the Succession Bill of 2392, the document became guide for the Terran Hegemony's High Council in matters of succession. The document using legal fineries to make virtually improvable for any candidates outside the Cameron family to be elected as a successor. This effectively established hereditary for the Camerons, ending elections for Director-Generals.

Seven years later, in 2399, Brian would marry Margaret McQuiston as his wife and legally claiming Richard as his heir and son.[6]

Final Years and Death

Brian took a tour of a newly acquired world of Elbar in 2403. Purchased from the Federated Suns, Brian wanted to take a tour the planet as its newly created ecosystem that began to blossom. The newly build farms and ranches brought good memories of his youth to him as he toured. However, fate paid him visit as he passed a Ranch. A enraged bull broke from his stall and rammed head on into Brian Cameron's hovercraft. The bulled gored him before his bodyguards could act and kill enraged animal. Lying in pain, he had rancher brought to him and questioned him on value of the bull to him. The rancher told him that bull was his ranches only bull, his ranches survival depended on it. Cameron had his people pay the Rancher's the bull, told him the bore no ill will to towards Rancher or the bull. He requested the bull head to be sent to his home on Terra so he and bull could be remembered. Brian would die before being able reach medical care. The Rancher fulfilled the Director-General request, cut and mounted the Bull's head with blood of Cameron still its horns. It was shipped back to Terra with plastic coating sealing blood to horns. The Cameron family received the head with apologies of rancher, they had it mounted in Cameron Castle in Glasgow, Scotland.[7]

His son too young to rule, his sister Judith would be chosen as next Director-General of the Terran Hegemony.[8]
