Debuting in 3128, the Crane Heavy Transport was Michaelson Heavy Industries latest transport VTOL. Fast, maneuverable, and with a hefty transport capacity, the Crane proved to be an excellent way to rapidly move troops over difficult terrain. Many Cranes were bought by the Republic of the Sphere to improve their logistics network. It is also popular with other Inner Sphere militaries as well.

Description[edit]

Debuting in 3131,[1] Michaelson Heavy Industries' Crane Heavy Transport quickly found success on the transport VTOL market, meeting the needs of forces across the Inner Sphere increasingly using VTOL-mobile infantry and equipment. Combining high speed and maneuverability with heavy armor and a large transport bay, the Crane proved effective at carrying soldiers and supplies over difficult terrain. It was often found in airmobile battalions and the Republic of the Sphere's deep-insertion teams, and was commonly used in emergency response and recovery as well.[3][4]

Weapons and Equipment[edit]

The Crane's most prominent feature is the eight ton Infantry Compartment that allows the Crane to carry multiple squads of battle armor or platoons of conventional infantry. It can reach a top speed of 120 km/h, and seven tons of armor provides protection from heavy weapons. Lightly armed, the Crane relies on four ScatterGun Machine Guns mounted in two Sponson Turrets for protection. These are provided with a half-ton of ammunition. These machine guns can hold back conventional infantry, but the Crane is ultimately not meant to engage in combat.[3]

Variants[edit]

No known variants of the Crane are known to exist.
