Description
The Extended Range Flamer (or ER Flamer) is a longer-range, weaker version of the fusion-based Flamer. First developed by Clan Jade Falcon in 3067 and introduced to the Inner Sphere by the Federated Suns in 3070, the Extended Range Flamer uses tighter magnetic coils and a narrower muzzle diameter to increase the weapon's range. This comes at the expense of inflicting heat on its target. While it is just as damaging, the ER version only forces its enemy to build up half as much heat.[6] This narrower "fire stream" also reduces the effect against conventional infantry, where the ER Flamer is roughly half as effective.[7] The ER Flamer also has high power requirements that restrict it to use on units with a fusion engine powering them.[8]
