Hudsenn's Red Devils were a mercenary unit operating during the Second and Third Succession Wars.[1] The unit was briefly renamed as Morgenstern's Slashers prior to their dissolution.[2]

History

Formed near the end of the Second Succession War by two battalions' worth of ex–House Marik regulars who banded together to oppose the Free Worlds League, Hudsenn's Red Devils saw extensive service with the Lyran Commonwealth. This ended after the Red Devils undertook a disastrous deep raid into League space in 3005, being defeated by the Defenders of Andurien with their avenue of retreat back into Lyran territory cut-off. Opting for the relative safety of the Periphery, the Red Devils arrived in the Magistracy of Canopus in the spring of 3007 and quickly signed a contract with that realm. Hudsenn's Red Devils successfully defended Canopian border systems against Marik incursions between 3010 and 3012, the unit's black and red painted Warhammers quickly garnering a reputation for efficiency and dependability. The unit's success well pleased the Magistracy, the increasing lucrative contact with the realm allowing the Red Devil's to add a third battalion of mostly illiterate but dedicated Canopian recruits. Noted for an excellent financial status, the Red Devil had signed on with the Magistracy until February 3038.[1]

The Red Devils future looked bleak however following the unit's involvement in the Andurien-Canopian Invasion of the Capellan Confederation, suffering a number of notable losses including the unit's beloved commanding officer Colonel Dirk Hudsenn. Though many expected Hudsenn's son Derek to replace his father, the highest-ranking survivor was Major Braderick Morgenstern who swiftly assumed command instead, fragmenting the unit's loyalties. With his command style harsh and unforgiving, Morgenstern quickly alienated a great number of Red Devils MechWarriors, ultimately leading Captain Derek Hudsenn and his company to split off and form Derek's Devils in 3045. While the Magistracy immediately hired the Devils, largely in recognition of Derik Hudsenn's honorable service to that realm, Morgenstern renamed the Hudsenn's Red Devils the Slashers and left for the Taurian Concordat. Morgenstern's Slashers were ultimately ground down to nothing thanks to a lack of employer support services, while Derek's Devils would thrive back in the Magistracy of Canopus.[2]
