Jerome Merz was the commanding officer of the Eighteenth Marik Militia for over twenty-five years. In history books he would later be remembered as the first Inner Sphere commander to encounter what would later be recognized as Clan-style warfare.[1]

In 3039, the Eighteenth where commanded to capture the planet Hall from the Federated Commonwealth. Jerome would be thwarted by Natasha Kerensky when she employed what, unbeknownst to Jerome at the time, was the first taste of "Clan-style warfare" in the Inner Sphere including what was essentially a Batchall and the Black Widow's organized as a Cluster.[1]

Arrest

He was replaced in 3066 by Colonel Julie Kiel.[2] Colonel Merz was stripped of rank and stood trial for tax evasion.
