Description

Created by Blue Nose Interstellar Technologies of Mars, the Liberty Class was the first "modern" version of the JumpShip. The Liberty's creation was due in part for the need for more economic design. By this time, only JumpShips being produce were the bulk & fragile primitively built ships, which required Dropships to be docked inside the hull of the vessel.

Blue Nose's efforts (with aid of Mars University’s Department of Theoretical Physics) would result in the development of the external Docking Collar and K-F Boom. By allowing JumpShip to carry its DropShips externally and cutting its hull size down, these measures would result in reduction overall cost of Interstellar travel. The prototype vessel, BNC Olympus, would conduct its first jump across Terran System in 2458 with the DropShip DCS Nimbus III.

Mass production would not begin until 2461, with Blue Nose producing dozen of the Liberty Class for Terran Hegemony. The ship success would lead the company to merge with its partners and form Blue Nose Clipperships Corporation and its massive shipyards orbiting Mars.

The Liberty would remain in production until the end of 2550, by then the design had been updated many times and had become the template of the modern JumpShip.[1]
