The Sacajawea was an Explorer-class JumpShip owned and operated initially by Interstellar Expeditions.

History[edit]

At some point prior to 3067, it was commandeered by Dr. Brooklyn Stevens and her crew when they broke away from IE in what was apparently not an amicable split. However, IE seemed to tolerate them taking the ship and even approached Stevens later with a job offer, seeking reconciliation. Stevens and her crew used the ship when they recovered the Chalice of Uston DeKirk from Rocky, and also during their quest to find Jardine, "the Atlantis of our time."

The Sacajawea was heavily modified. Most importantly, it had traded minor luxuries along with some shuttle space for added armor and weapons. The enhanced armament was sufficient to fight off pirate raids, as the crew had repeatedly demonstrated.[1][2]

Where other vessels of the class usually carried an observatory, high-powered radio telescopes and a holographic "planetarium" chamber, the Sacajawea carried a single conference room and something resembling a library of both hardcopy and electronic files.[3]

In a report from 3073 it was noted that finding Jardine had resulted in a manhunt for Stevens, her family and her crew by the Word of Blake. Over the course of this manhunt, "her venerable ship" (implicitly, the Sacajawea) had reportedly been "blasted apart near Skye."[4] In truth, Stevens and the Sacajawea reached the Nestor system where they linked up with Sir Paul Masters of the Knights of the Inner Sphere, evacuating and leaving the vessel on automatic after they wiped its logs and reformatted its computer core.[2]

The pursuing Blakist forces under Poltergeist Precentor Sigma Damien Lucille would find the Sacajawea station keeping with its jump sail deployed fifty-thousand kilometers from Nestor's Zenith Jump point, suspecting a trap as his Free Worlds League-flagged shuttle approached to perform a "routine customs inspection." Boarding the seeming derelict but fully functional ship, Lucille found nothing but a single taunting message from Sir Paul Masters. While Lucille knew, as Masters intimated, that Irian Technologies likely could recover some of the deleted information, he ordered the local storage be pulled for Irian's techs to perform this and the ship to be messily scuttled from the inside out as a blatant warning for others.[2][5]
