History
The first class of recruits at the Sentinelry Academy on Rockwellawan began training in the arctic summer of 3088, shortly after construction of the Academy finished. It was hoped that the harsh conditions at the edge of the glacial zone on the continent of Corundum would help toughen the recruits up, and make them a more valuable addition to the regiments of the Fronc Cuirassiers once they graduated.[1] Unfortunately for the recruits, a scheme arranged by the Colonial Marshals intended to lure the pirate bands aggressively raiding the worlds of the Fronc Reaches went wrong, and in June 3088 the Cadre found themselves in the firing line. The primary defenders against the pirates were the First Fronc Cuirassiers, who were deployed across the Interstellar Agriculture Concerns plant located at the city of Kite,[2] as well as the city of Carat, where products from the mining industry and valuable minerals were stored.[3] When the pirate band known as Calderon's Commando attacked, they had longer-term plans than a simple raid; they deployed the bulk of their forces against the Fronc Cuirassiers' base and the Academy in an attempt to cripple both, thereby making future raids easier. While the much smaller pirate attack on the IAC plant was rebuffed by the Cuirassiers, the other pirate attacks were dramatically successful; the Academy Cadre and their Colonial Marshals instructors faced a battalion of Calderon's Commandos BattleMechs, and tried to hold out for reinforcements from the Cuirassiers, but were overwhelmed. Both the Academy and the Cuirassier's base were destroyed, and the pirates managed to disable many of the defenders 'Mechs and tanks and drag them away as salvage, which they would then put into use in future raids.[2]
