History

The Aegis-class heavy cruiser Silver Snake was a former Star League Defense Force WarShip that survived the Amaris Coup and the resulting Hegemony Campaign, joining General Aleksandr Kerensky on the exodus. After the colonization of the Pentagon Worlds the ship was mothballed, ultimately languishing in a naval cache in the New Kent system for centuries.

At some point after late 3067[1] the Steel Vipers reactivated the Silver Snake (possibly renaming it to the Silver Snake from whatever the original SLDF name for the ship was) and added it to the active forces within their touman. The first military action the Silver Snake saw was in September 3073, when Steel Viper forces were engaged in an attempt to absorb or destroy the Kindraa Mattila-Carrol presence on the world of Glory. When forces from Clan Goliath Scorpion arrived in the system in September and found their allies from Clan Fire Mandrill under seige, the Goliath Scorpions moved to assist Kindraa Matilla-Caroll.[2]

saKhan Kelton Myers moved the Goliath Scorpion forces into orbit above Glory and was immediately challenged by the Steel Vipers, who declared the Scorpions to be dezgra and had the Silver Snake and the accompanying Potemkin-class cruiser CSV Ophidian open fire on the Scorpion ships without waiting for any response. The Lola III-class destroyer CGS Auriga was badly damaged by the initial volley from the Ophidian, and both the Viper and Scorpion fleets promptly launched DropShips and AeroSpace Fighters as the Scorpions launched a ferocious defense.[2]

The Steel Viper forces managed to destroy the Auriga as well as the Sovetskii Soyuz-class heavy cruiser CGS Serket and the Aegis-class heavy cruiser CGS Corona Borealis. Despite the damage inflicted by the Viper forces, they were unable to prevent the Scorpions landing ground forces on the surface of Glory; the Silver Snake was lost during the battle, and the heavily-damaged Silver Snake was forced to retreat with the remaining Viper fighters, falling back to the far side of Foster's primary moon.[2]

There is no record of the Silver Snake having survived the Wars of Reaving and the annihilation of Clan Steel Viper in December 3075.[3] As the last two major fleet actions for Clan Steel Viper were the campaign against Tamaron in 3074[4] and the battle of New Kent in December 3075[3] the Silver Snake was most likely destroyed in one of these two engagements.
