Description

Based on the original Star League era BattleMech, the Stalker II is a complete top to bottom redesign which takes advantage of the new technological advancements gained since the last era of open wafarer ended. Its conception was propelled by the events of Gray Monday in 3132. Irian engineers on Shiro III reviewed records of the classic Stalker over its service life and focused their efforts on taking the best of those qualities for their new design.

These efforts resulted in the Stalker II, giving troops an incredibly durable Assault Mech which is able to withstand horrific amounts of punishment. First deployed by the armed forces of the Duchy of Andurien in 3137, the Stalker II was deployed with all of its major units. The mech first saw action during the Duchy of Oriente's invasion of the Duchy. Shortly after the conflict, Irian began selling the Stalker II to Andurien allies as a means of drumming up needed cash for the Duchy. Sales of the design would see the 'Mech deployed with various combat units within the Capellan Confederation and the now-defunct Marik-Stewart Commonwealth.

The Stalker II would make a name for itself during the Commonwealth's last days, fighting against Lyran and Clan Wolf forces. In the fighting on Rexburg, two Stalker IIs from the Thirteenth Atrean Dragoons would engage in a Clan Trial to buy time for the rest of their company to withdraw from the battlefield. Each Stalker II engaged an entire Nova of Light 'Mechs and Combat Vehicles. The Trial by Combat ended when one of the Stalker IIs crippled by its foes and while the other had defeated its opponents however the pilot eventually succumbed to neurohelment feedback effects in aftermath of his victory.[2]

Armament and Capacities

Designed to take great deal of punishment, the Stalker II's armor protection consists of 27 tons of Riese-675 Hardened Armor with additional of CASE II. The Stalker II is powered by a Strand rated-255 Fusion Engine, very same model used to power its ancient brethren over the centuries. The old power plant would prove to be unable overcome the weight of new heavy armor and cause the 'Mech maximum speed to be slowed down to only 43 kph. Adding to these protected aspects of the design, the cockpit has been moved to the torso, while a Compact Gyro is installed to make room for it.

One of the aspects that contributed to the original Stalker's success was variants which had been using Star League era fire control systems. In order to recapture this particular aspect of the old design, the Stalker II was fitted with a modern Targeting Computer which ties into its eight Magna Mk. II Medium Lasers. For its long-range firepower, the 'Mech relies on two Irian Weapon Works 10-Tubed Extended-Range LRM Launchers with four tons of ammunition tied into them.[3]
