Overview

Testfall is a pair of BattleTech scenarios by Hartwig Nieder-Gassel, published in issue #39 (September/October 1997) of the FanPro house magazine Wunderwelten. They prominently feature the 80-ton LNC-X05 Lancer BattleMech that was introduced in the Wunderwelten magazine.

While the first scenario was a regular boardgame scenario, the second was to be played using the 'Mech Duel Rules from the Arena-Planet Solaris VII boxed set.

Story

To both field-test their newly designed hybrid-technology 'Mech and to advertise it to potential buyers, Gibson Federated BattleMechs transferred a Lancer to Bromley Stables on Solaris VII. Gibson Federated's senior test pilot (with elite skills) at the time is none other than Ron Dexter (the famous—or infamous—former XO of the defunct Camerons Legion mercenary unit who was tied to the Nystadt massacre twenty-four years earlier when he piloted a Marauder in battle and destroyed a school building during urban combat).

The first scenario pits Dexter in the Lancer against a lance of lighter 'Mechs (Locust, Jenner, Panther, Assassin), a lance of four Vedette tanks, and altogether six infantry platoons in a mock battle. Dexter prevailed.

The second scenario finds Bromley's senior trainer David Saleski in a grudge match in "The Factory" arena against two MechWarriors from the Fitzhugh Stables (with whom they had a feud ongoing), PAL-2A Paladin pilot Erwin Stommel and SA-RN Ronin pilot Manfred von Stuck. While the outcome of that match isn't mentioned, it was said to be the most-seen arena vid from 3058 as Saleski challenged the other pilots to duel him not one after another, but simultaneously.

Canonicity

Published exclusively in an apocryphal magazine, Testfall must be considered apocryphal as well.

Wunderwelten was the house magazine of FanPro, who were the German BattleTech licensee at the time of publication and later even held the complete BattleTech license. While Wunderwelten does not technically meet the current criteria for canon, its BattleTech-related content does therefore still have a claim to being an official publication under a valid license.
