History[edit]
Academy and Early Career[edit]
Decker attended the War College of Buena alongside Roderick Steiner, who was at that time known as Roderick Frost, with who Decker had remained friends subsequently. Despite being a good officer however, Decker's career had been derailed prior to 3137, due to his being caught by his superiors running an illegal gambling operation.[2]
Operation HAMMERFALL[edit]
Decker's career was however revived in 3137, when Roderick drafted him into the First Steiner Strikers in July on Cavanaugh II, a hard case unit which was formed to participate in Operation HAMMERFALL.[2] Staying on Cavanaugh II for a number of months with his new unit, Decker was involved in training exercises through to September 3137, which Roderick used to hone the Strikers' skills.[3]
Following the completion of this training, Decker fought with the Strikers against Free Worlds League forces on worlds including Labouchere, Tamarind and Helm, as a Leutnant and CO of Saber Company. On 31 October 3137, this included an engagement with Duchy of Tamarind-Abbey's Labouchere militia, who surrendered after two days.[4] On Tamarind, between at least 29 November and 14 December he fought against the Tamarind Regulars, on the Harvison Flats south of Zanzibar.[5][6][7] In 28 April 3138 on Helm, Decker fought elements of the Silver Hawk Irregulars, who the Strikers forced to retreat.[8] In early June 3138, Decker was also involved in a Lyran invasion of Stewart with the Strikers, as part of a force attempting to take its capital city of New Edinburgh.[9]
The fights Decker picked during this period were not however limited to enemy forces, as while on Millungera in early November 3137 he started a bar brawl with members of the Fifth Lyran Regulars at a watering hole known as Major Goolies, after they insulted the Strikers as a penal unit unworthy of wearing LCAF uniforms.[10]
Regimental Command[edit]
Following Roderick's promotion to General of the Armies, Decker became the commanding officer of the First Steiner Strikers, with whom he was based on Furillo as of 3145.[1] Tasked with protecting Furillo's important military industry, Decker still hoped to conduct offensive operations against Clan Jade Falcon, which helped maintain the unit's positive public reputation.[11]
BattleMech[edit]
Decker was known to have piloted a Stalker BattleMech.[6]
Personality and Traits[edit]
Decker had a strong affinity for tried and true Lyran military tactics, decrying overly imaginative military plans, in preference for the patient grinding out of an enemy.[12]
