Unit Description
XXVII Corps (or the Twenty-Seventh Corps) was one of the seventy-two Corps that made up the Star League Defense Force. XXVII Corps was one of the larger Corps; prior to the collapse of the Star League it consisted of 6 divisions, 5 independent regiments and an independent aero wing. [1]
History
In 2764 XXVII Corps was part of the 10th Army, assigned to District 1 of the Lyran Commonwealth Military Region. When the simmering violence and rebellion building in the Periphery erupted with the New Vandenberg Uprising and subsequent Periphery-wide uprising in 2765 XXVII Corps was deployed into Districts 2 and 3 of the LCMR, along with the rest of the 11th Army, to backfill for units deployed into the Periphery Military Region.[1]
XXVII Corps fought in the 12-year long Hegemony Campaign, losing four divisions in combat - the 3rd Infantry, 55th Mechanized Infantry, 92nd Jump Infantry and the 413th BattleMech - along with three of the independent regiments. The Corps also lost the Michigan 61st to disbandment after it suffered heavy losses.[1]
Of the units that survived the campaign, the 129th Mechanized Infantry Division and the 188th Royal Independent Aero Wing followed General Aleksandr Kerensky on the Exodus. The 346th Heavy Tank Regiment, an intact sub-unit of the disbanded Michigan 61st, joined the Free Worlds League rather than join the Exodus. Of the two surviving regiments that had been independent regiments within XXVII Corps, the 23rd Heavy Assault Regiment chose to join the Federated Suns, while the 11th Royal Heavy Assault Regiment was one of the very few SLDF Royal units to remain in the Inner Sphere, signing on with the Lyran Commonwealth.[1]
