Unit Profile (as of 2765)
Nickname The Belgium Fusiliers
Parent Formation XVIII Corps
Formed unknown

The 256th Mechanized Infantry Division was a part of the Star League Defense Force Regular Army.

The unit was created by reorganizing the 65th SLDF Brigade into a full infantry Division. It was first called the "Dutch and Belgian Fusiliers", but that name was shortened as most of the soldiers within the unit hailed from outside the Hegemony.[1]

By the final years of the Star League, amphibious operations were a specialty of the 256th thus making them ideal troops to deploy on water rich worlds.[2]

In 2764, the unit was assigned, as a part of the XVIII Corps, Seventeenth Army, to the Periphery Military Region.[3] The 256th was destroyed during the Periphery Uprising in 2765.[3]

The Division comprised two Brigades of Mechanized Infantry and a single BattleMech Brigade. Also attached was a Ground Aero Wing.[4]
