Bethold Syndrome was a disease eminently treatable during the Star League era, but which became an all but incurable illness which could shorten a person's life considerably during the LosTech depleted Third Succession War period.
However its cure was rediscovered once the Helm Memory Core was made available to the New Avalon Institute of Science, the cure being one of the first technological wonders able to be recovered from the core.
This was a boon for sufferers, such as MechWarrior Richard Timms, who were given a new lease on life.[1]
