History[edit]
Diego Widmer was Margrave of the Timbuktu Theater during the later years of the Dark Age. When Vedet Brewer was deposed as Archon in 3143, Widmer granted him and his First Hesperus Guards asylum on the world of Alekseyevka.[2].
In 3144 Trillian Steiner seemingly abandoned the vital factory world of Hesperus II. In response to this, Widmer and his ally Gareth Dinesen began agitating for Trillian's overthrow and the replacement of the Archon with a military junta. Only the intervention of Roderick Steiner and the loyalty of several key military units prevented this mutinous sentiment from turning into a coup.[3]
Rebellion[edit]
In February 3146, troops from the Free Worlds League's Duchy of Tamarind-Abbey invaded the Commonwealth, seizing the worlds of Zdice, Abramkovo, Kamenz and Bolan. Despite the presence of Lyran units in the region, no Lyran counterattack was launched. [4] The lack of a response to the invasion from Tharkad caused an uproar in the Timbuktu Theater and Buena Province. On July 7th, 3146, Diego Widmer declared the secession of Buena, Valloire and his homeworld Ayacucho from the Commonwealth, citing Archon Trillian's unwillingness or inability to protect the region from Marik aggression. Widmer named himself Warlord and his new state the Buena Collective. Widmer followed up his treason by laying siege to the world of Loburg, most likely with the aim of seizing its mech factories. The fall of Loburg and fears of the Jade Falcon invasion of the Arc-Royal Theater convinced another six of the Buena Province's worlds to go over to Widmer's side. A seventh, Urjala, was prevented from doing so by the Florida TTM, which Widmer made no effort to contest.[5]
On the 6th of June Task Force Kingbreaker began assaulting Widmer's breakaway state. Included in the first wave of targets was Ayacucho, and Widmer's family estate was assaulted by the Florida TTM.[6] Widmer wished to break the stalemate on Ayacucho, but was unable to spare the troops due to his need to defend his capital on Buena and Loburg's mech factories. By January public opinion in the Collective had turned against Widmer, with propaganda campaigns, protests against his rule and outright defections or surrenders within his military breaking out. As Kingbreaker closed in around him, Widmer placed his hopes in appeals to Vedet Brewer for aid. Unfortunately for Widmer, he received only a single reply from Brewer: "I hope you have an exit strategy". On January 30th Lyran troops captured Widmer, bringing his rebellion to an end.[7]
On March 28, 3148 Widmer was executed for his treason against the Commonwealth on Buena.[8]
