Major General Eliot Vanness was the commander of the Star League Defense Force's 370th BattleMech Division as of 2755.[1]

Vanness was the commander of the 370th BattleMech Division at the time of the Birthday Proclamations, when it was ordered to withdraw from the Rim Worlds Republic world of Wotan, together with the rest of the Twentieth Army.[1]
Commanding General Aleksandr Kerensky was very keen to prevent, against the wishes of Stefan Amaris, this withdrawal leaving any SLDF equipment or data in the hands of Rim Worlds forces.[2] Kerensky's wishes were however thwarted by errors committed by Vanness amongst others, who during an event which became known as the Hevrol Aero Base Incident, oversaw a failure by her ground aero wing commander to erase the base's data as they abandoned it.
As a result of this incident, Vanness was relived of command, and replaced by Major General Evelyn Dancy.[1]
