Precentor Garth Hansen was, as of 3054, a Word of Blake ROM agent.[2]
History[edit]
Hansen grew up in the care of ComStar's most conservative and fervent wing, supported and mentored by Demona Aziz's close associate Beignard Stromboli. He joined ROM as a teenager, quickly proving effective and ruthless. A string of dead partners was no obstacle to Hansen's rapid ascension; with his record of success, his role arranging their deaths went unnoticed. Eventually, when the Schism occurred, Precentor Hansen sided with the Word of Blake and moved to the Free Worlds League.[1] He affiliated himself with the Toyamas.[3]
In 3054, on behalf of the Toyamas, Hansen carried out a plot to frame ComStar for an attack on an HPG, in order to oust the organization from the Mercenary Review and Bonding Commission. Posing as a ComStar representative, he hired a team of mercenaries to investigate the HPG station on Berenson, alleging that the Blakist station had gone silent.[4] The mercenaries, accompanied by Adept Ford Eisner, arrived in June,[5] and were promptly fired on by the garrison and the HPG itself, used to fire a powerful electromagnetic pulse. The HPG was destroyed in the engagement, to the intense surprise of Hansen.[6] With his lawyer Ron Filler, he notified the MRBC of the HPG attack and gave evidence against the mercenaries, resulting in the mercenaries being convicted of crimes against humanity and ComStar being fined for the raid - an acceptable result, embarrassing ComStar.[7] However, the plan was soon derailed. Eisner, shocked by the events he had witnessed, told authorities all he knew some days later, clearing the names of the mercenaries and ComStar alike.[8]
Description[edit]
By 3054, Hansen was an old man, his hair white. He was of moderate size, with an angular face and long and delicate fingers. He concealed ruthless fanaticism behind a mask of grandfatherly kindliness.[1]
Notes[edit]
- In chapter 4 of the adventure Null Set, the player characters, the convicted mercenaries, are intended to return to Berenson's HPG in search of evidence and engage Hansen in combat, potentially capturing or killing him. However, it is possible for the PCs to fail. Regardless of their actions, Eisner provides the key evidence in their favor. Hansen's fate is unknown.
