Major Jake Blanchard was the commander of the Second Armored Battalion of the Hansen's Roughriders mercenary unit as of 3035.[1]

Blanchard was known for keeping his tank, and battalion, near the main formation of Roughrider BattleMechs where they can better provide support for the 'Mechs.
Blanchard participated in the Hansen's Roughriders raid, under Lyran Commonwealth contract, on the Draconis Combine world of Sternwerde in 3035. When three regiments of Combine reinforcement arrived in-system, Blanchard was a key member of an ambush of their landing zones, which caught and slaughtered the Combine troops as they were unloading from their DropShips.
Blanchard's personal tank was responsible for the most kills of any Roughrider during that engagement, accounting for one DropShip, five BattleMechs, almost forty vehicles and several hundred infantry. This impressive kill total was achieved by the use of infernos fired into the exposed cargo bay of an unloading DropShip, which detonated ammunition stockpiled there, leading to the destruction of all the units on its packed loading ramps.[1]

Blanchard was known to have commanded a Bulldog medium tank nicknamed "Little Softy".[1]
