Michelle Cane was a captain in the Republic Armed Forces.

History[edit]

Cane was a distant platoon leader and commanding officer of Evan Kaiple's unit when the RAF tried to reconquer Shinonoi.[1]

In 3135, RAF forces tried to recapture the planet. Their forces landed in the Matsuda continent, not far from the capital, Rising Sun.[2] Not far ends up being about 250 km to the north. RAF forces set up their Base Camp at landing zone and then start moving on.[1] Exhausted after three days of a 250 km winding march, wading through the ripe fields because enemy fire came in every time RAF made a move forward plus some skirmishes where patrols of light 'Mechs, when finally RAF is position for the real fighting, they are exhausted.[3] Things go bad. DCMS Assault-'Mechs, infantry, aerial support force RAF forces to take a new position, and then abandon it.[4] RAF forces seem to keep trying to delay leaving the planet when they got to a river that coursed through a 15-meter-deep ravine. Slopes were gentle enough to let their forces walk down easily, but steep enough that they could quickly disappear from view. They went down, and Captain Michelle Cane gave the order immediately to move to the DCMS left flank. They ran, breaking away from the main force which stayed the course to draw their fire. Then these RAF forces came out of the ravine hard. DCMS forces weren't entirely surprised, but they weren't expecting RAF to come on so fast. Their left gave a little, and the whole front rippled. The timing had been perfect and the bulk of RAF forces turned right there and hit DCMS while they were confused. They fell back, and RAF chased them all day.[5] Thanks to this, RAF forces were finally near Rising Sun.[6] RAF forces tried to conquer the city block by block, and though MechWarriors like Evan Kaiple were not happy with that tactic because securing buildings forgets that enemy has jump capable 'Mechs that can counter this tactic, Captain Michelle Cane was adamant on this.[7] DCMS finally attacked RAF from behind. The first wave charged the RAF flank and had them reeling pretty quickly, and then a second wave dropped from above. Though DCMS lost most of their units in the second wave, they messed RAF forces up. Then end up scrambling and out of formation. The number of total RAF losses was unknown, but several units still hadn't regrouped at the end as they remained lost on unfamiliar streets that, suddenly, were filled with enemies waiting for an ambush.[8] After several days with their forces dispersed and suffering night attacks,[9][10] RAF forces retreat, beaten back on another front.[11]

She was on the JumpShip Stonewall when Fortress Republic was announced to the RAF forces there.[12][13]
