Shortly after the creation of the New Avalon Institute of Science in 3015, First Prince Hanse Davion ordered the formation of the NAIS Information Network so that the institute's discoveries could benefit the broadest section of the citizenry of the Federated Suns. The NIN is an independent organization that works in conjunction with the NAIS' extensive library and archives, cataloging and digitally storing all the information from that famed center of learning that can be converted to electronic media and providing access to those who need it.[1][2]
While NAIS students and faculty, along with certain other military and government personnel, have complete access (within security limitations), the NAIS Information Network most notably also offers access to these archives to any Federated Suns citizen or company willing to pay the significant subscription fees demanded. Limited subscriptions to the NAIS Information Network are even offered to external parties in the other Successor States, though the Federated Suns Foreign Ministry actively restricts and regulates what information is provided.[1][2]
