Voice of the Resistance is a short story by Chris Hartford that was published as introductory fiction for Field Manual: ComStar in 1999.
Plot Summary[edit]
Trent Arian, Precentor Martial of the Word of Blake and military governor of Terra, along Precentor Suzanne Mulvanery must attend an official memorial service in the ninth anniversary of Primus Myndo Waterly's murder at the hands of Anastasius Focht. He had to fly from his command post to Hilton Head.
In his way to a ground car that would be their transport, Trent thinks on the issues the Word is facing, the need of a new Primus, the infighting, and also on the increase of attacks by ComStar survivors, with he himself surviving two attempts on his life.
Once inside, they open the drinks cabinet and found a note within, with a single line. For the second is passes from this to the car explosion that kills both, the implications of the note and how their security was bypassed speaks volumes.
