History

On 3058 they were under Illyrian Palatinate contract, defending Illyria itself.[1]

When Caesar Julius O'Reilly started the conquest of the Illyrian Palatinate, his forces consisted of the better part of three full Legions, but nevertheless, Caesar O'Reilly gave the Illyrian mercenaries the opportunity to recant their contracts and enter his service as a part of his Legions.

On the 8 June 3063 in the Foothills of Mount Nijak on Illyrian the Marian Forces (II Legio) were forced to a stalemate by the Arms of Thor. The battle might have ended in a route by the Illyrian troops as Cavanaugh's Cavalry abandoned its post.[2]

During the 15 July 3063, in the Marian Hegemony Field Headquarters, Caesar O'Reilly met Jared Cavanaugh and during that meeting he was able to make Cavanaugh's Cavalry agreed to switch allegiance to the Marian Hegemony Armed Forces, without "notifying" the Illyrian Palatinate of their alliance shift.

Having turned traitor, the Cavalry remained largely on the sidelines until the final three days of the campaign on Illyria itself. As the Arms of Thor launched attacks in an attempt to break through the Marian lines and destroy the Caesar's headquarters, the Cavalry decided that the Arms of Thor were clearly doomed, and chose to act. Entering the Illyrian capital in the guise of being friendly forces, the Cavalry promptly captured the city in the name of Caesar. The Arms of Thor launched one final attack in an attempt to reach Caesar O'Reilly but failed, and two hours after the capture of their capital city, the Illyrians surrendered. Cavanaugh's Cavalry then accompanied a triumphant Caesar back to Alphard, where Julius commissioned the former mercenaries as VI Legio, thus ending the unit existence as mercenary.[3]
