Description
The twenty-fifth century Dragonfire would push the limits of modern technology to rival heavy fighters like the Marik Eagle and the Lyran Hurricane.
Weapons and Equipment
The fighter was equipped with a primitive engine, primitive cockpit, and primitive armor. A medium laser was mounted in the nose for short range fighting, while a large laser and LRM-10 launcher in each wing provided longer ranged power. A single SRM-2 launcher was posted to the aft to deter pursuers.
Variants
Due to its short service life, no variants were known to exist.
History
The Dragonfire would become one of the primary aerospace fighters of the Capellan Confederation, with Saroyan forced to expand its factory site fourfold to keep up the demand. In fact, it was so successful that twelve attempts had been made to steal the plans from neighbors by mid 2420, though eventually House Marik was able to acquire it.
The Dragonfire's prominence lasted until the first generation of modern aerospace fighter built with advances in fusion and armor technologies spurred by the BattleMech arms race. Though several attempts were made to keep the fighter up to date with the new innovations, all attempts failed.
By the early twenty-sixth century, the Dragonfire had been relegated to backwater militias and by mid-century it had all but disappeared.
The Dragonfire served as the inspiration for the Transgressor's air-frame, setting again Saroyan success.
