Harold Kinney was the commanding officer of the Ninth Hastati Sentinels as of 3111.[1]

History[edit]

Brigadier General Kinney commanded the Ninth Hastati Sentinels during the Capellan Crusades, most notably in the fighting surrounding ownership of the planet Liao. While working on reconstruction efforts in the ruins of the capital city of Chang-an, Kinney's Ninth Hastati were ambushed on 8 March 3113 by a force comprised of the newly-arrived Death Commandos and Red Lancers and the battered-but-resupplied Dynasty Guard. Reinforced by an elite company of Amaterasu warriors, the Ninth Hastati managed to hold the line, necessitating Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao's entrance into the fight. While the Amaterasu soldiers succeeded in apparently killing the Chancellor, the rage this imbued the attacking Capellan troops with forced both the Ninth Hastati and Amaterasu forces out of the city.[2]

Kinney's Ninth Hastati spent the next two months being fiercely hounded by the Red Lancers and Dynasty Guard, losing an entire battalion to the former in the Du-jin Mountains and the coastal cities of Desu and Duan to the latter. The low point of the Ninth Hastati's campaign occurred on 5 May, when the Dynasty Guard attacked the HungLi Military Base and quickly captured it, costing the Ninth its last holdings in the region. Fortunately, when Stone's Lament arrived on the planet, the combined might of the fresh unit combined with the beleaguered Ninth Hastati and Amaterasu troops enabled the Republic to reclaim all of its lost territory and drive the Capellans back to Chang-an. While the Capellans steeled themselves for a last stand and the Republic prepared for a final assault, the 2 June armistice signed by Devlin Stone and Daoshen Liao prevented a climactic battle from occurring.[3]
