The ranks of the Armored Forces of the Federated Suns are an combination of elements from the SLDF and the ancient british army. [1]. That kind of ranks system provide the military with a security because incompetent soldiers could not rise to fare in responsibility.

Enlisted Ranks:
The rank patch is placed on the right shoulder. Often called by the soldiers as Scars or Scars of the Sword [1]
Private FS3025-private.png The lowest rank for regular army members are the Private. Before getting the rank every citizen, at the age of 16, how are willing to serve the Suns enter the army as recruit. The recruit enter first the boot camp at his homeworld. After successfull graduation the soldier serve for at least 24 months within an regular army unit.[1]
Corporal FS3025-corporal.png The next higher level are that of the Corporal. Usually gained after 12 months of service the only different to the private ranks is a higher payment and should a solider die in a fight the family get a small pension. Soldiers with leader skills getting training at one of the Small Unit School where they learn tactical basics.[2]
Sergeant FS3025-sergeant.png Sergeants are leaders of squads or are commanding vehicles. In other branches they hold also position with resposibility. The army honor the work of the sergeants with higher payment and more freedoms. Graduates from the academies receive the ranks to.[2]
Sergeant-Major FS3025-sergeant-major.png That is the highest enlisted rank for a common soldier. Only a handful of Sergeant-Majors are in every regiment. They explain the orders from the officers to their soldiers. When the soldiers have difficults the Sergeant-Major are the first person to get notice and inform the officers. Technical personal get that rank to when they show extraodinary skills. [3]
Officer Ranks:
The primary duty of the officirs are to secure victory against the enemy of the suns.
Cadet/Subaltern That is the lowest rank for an officer. As an sign of their newly started army service the soldier has blank shoulder boards. Academy graduates holding the rank for 6 months before they are become leftenants. [4]

Captain FS3025-captain.png The captains are highly regarded by their men because the officers fight with them. Companies are lead by an Captain. They have the task to put the plans in reality and should it fail to develop an successful alternitve.[5]
Major FS3025-major.png The major are commanding a battlion of troops. He receive orders from his superior and also reports about the situation at the front from his subordinates. Should a plan go wrong he must save as many soldier as possible and secure also the flank of the command.[6]
Leftenant Colonel FS3025-leftenant-colonel.png He is often the executive officer of an regiment. The light colonel is responsible for the daily administrative work to give the colonel more freedom to develope new plans. During combat he commands reserve units or support commands. The naval equivalent is light commodire [6]
Colonel FS3025-colonel.png The officer with that rank lead normaly regiments or a small department within the administration. He spent most of his time to secure supply for his command in face of the bureaucracy. In the equivalent is Commodore.[7]
Leftenant General FS3025-leftenant-general.png A rank created with the goal to prepare the officer to handle the administrative task of larger commands. They are often part of an RCT staff and during combat commanding key units. [7]
Major-General FS3025-major-general.png The Major-General is the XO within a march milita. His tasked is the coordination of several commands on several worlds at a time. In battle they lead key units. Vice Admiral are the equivalent at the navy.[8]
General FS3025-general.png When a Major-General had proven that he can handle his task the officer get command over an entire March Militia. He must also coordinate the supplies for the regmints under his autority. The Admiral is the naval counterpart.[8]
Marshal FS3025-Marshal.png Marshal are responsible for a Regimental Combat Team. He get his post from a Field Marshall after he had shown his ability to command a March Militia administrativ and military equal. In the navy a Fleet Admiral has comparable tasks. [9]
Field-Marshal FS3025-Field-Marshal.png[9] Only fourtheen Field-Marshal are in command. Seven officers command the Combat theater. Two are resonsible for the 2 marches (Draconis March + Capellan March) because the remaining are advisors to the Price. [9]

Since the formation of the AFFC in 3048 the rank system within the army changed. It includes elements from both, the AFFS and LCAF, to form an new modern equvalent. But since the seperation in two independents realms in the late 3050's. [11]
