But in 3028 during the Fourth Succession War, their ways parted. After Hanse Davion offered the Highlanders the opportunity to return at his homeplanet in exchange of their services, Corwin Jaffray was a vocal opponent to the idea of betraying the Confederation. By 3057, anyway, the Jaffrays returned to Northwind in a very unexpected way: That year, Capellan chancellor Sun Tzu Liao worked with Thomas Marik to launch Operation GUERRERO, and one of their main targets was Northwind. Sun Tzu send Loren Jaffray to Northwind to convince the Highlanders to proclame their independence, or destroy them. Loren found himself more near to the Highlanders than to the Confederation, so eventually saved the Highlanders, fighting alongside them and helping them to win their independence before joining them.[3] During the Dark Age, the Jaffrays still serve in the Highlanders military.[4]
