Plot summary
At an unknown date, a light recon lance working from Lindon's Company under Free Worlds League contract is participating in the takeover of the Lyran Commonwealth planet of New Delhi.
Our light mercenary recon force is ordered to scout the city of Salasville. The unit, formed by an Hermes II, two Phoenix Hawks a Wasp and a support hoover scout enter the city. While advancing, they detect a faint heat signature and the hoover scout goes to investigate it. After finding the source of heat, it runs away saying he's found a Mech, though the team cannot understand which. The hover cannot escape and gets destroyed by a Medium Laser hit.
One of the Phoenix Hawk pilots goes direcly against the alleged target saying it must be an Assassin. The commanding officer of the lance and narrator is forced to follow her MechWarrior, and makes the rest of the team race for the position. When the first of his 'Mechs arrives to the zone, a PPC connects with its head, killing the other Phoenix Hawk. The Wasp pilot is able to avoid the same fate and jumps to avoid the unknown enemy, in the process identifiying it as a BattleMaster. When the Hermes II arrives he sees his other lance Phonix Hawk severely beaten, right arm missing and with a PPC going to decapitate her. The lance commander uses his flammer to distract the enemy BattleMaster, in the process being hit by the PPC and falling down.
The BattleMaster returns to trying to end with the last Phoenix Hawk, but her remaining comrades are able to save her. The BattleMaser centers again on the Hermes II ignoring the heavily damaged Phoenix Hawk and the Wasp until the Wasp is able to connect a Death From Above against one of the torsos. The BattleMaster, in a sort of rage procedes to pick the Wasp and throw it to a six stores building, and making it collapse on top of the Wasp. The two surviving Mechwarriors flee after that.
In the after report, the Lance commander says he retired but her colleague decided to keep working. He also explains that the Wasp pilot survived three days inside the cockpit with rations. The BattleMaster and its pilot escaped.
