Maria Vandenburg was the daughter of Duke Gideon Braver Vandenburg.[2] When her father, commander of the Blazing Aces mercenary unit, perished in battle against Clan Ghost Bear forces on Kaesong, it was his dying wish for his daughter Maria to rebuild the Aces with the 'Mechs he had hidden.[2] It is unclear if that ever came to pass.

Notes[edit]

  • Before she was properly inducted to BattleTech canon through being mentioned in Recognition Guide: ilClan, vol. 11, Maria Vandenburg was only mentioned in two scripted scenes from the (apocryphal) computer game The Crescent Hawks' Revenge. Over the course of this game the player's unit—the Crescent Hawks, moving to the defense of Luthien against the Clan Invasion in 3051 as part of the Kell Hounds—moves through the Kaesong system and picks up a call for help from the Blazing Aces on the planet below. They arrive too late to save Gideon Braver Vandenburg. As he is dying, he says "You're too late. The Aces... destroyed. I've taken precautions, hidden the 'Mechs. Tell Maria... rebuild the Aces. She'll know what to do." Later, during the game's final scenes, Morgan Kell is informed of this and promises to tell Maria Vandenburg of her late father's dying words.
