Roe Weapon Systems (RWS) was an aerospace manufacturer in the Rim Worlds Republic prior to the destruction of the Republic.

History[edit]

The primary and largest factory for RWS was on the Republic capital world, Apollo.[1] Another significant location for Roe Weapon Systems was the Finmark system, home to the administrative capital of the Finmark Province; RWS operated production facilities on Finmark itself that were used to help expand the training facilities available at the Finmark Air and Space Academy, located above the surface of Finmark. RWS also had drydock facilities in the Finmark system that served as both the primary factories and service sections for the Rim Worlds Republic Navy fleets of Bonaventure and Pinto-class corvettes.[2]

During the Amaris Civil War the Rim Worlds Republic was invaded by the SLDF and Roe Weapon Systems was destroyed.[1] The primary factory on Apollo was discontinued in 2767 and production of the Vulcan aerospace fighter stopped.[1] While the shipyards above Finmark had been damaged during the Amaris Civil War, after the collapse of the Rim Worlds Republic the planetary government on Finmark began work to restore the shipyards to operational status. By the late 2780s Finmark had been able to provide assistance to at least two nearby worlds and had the Roe Weapon Systems shipyards nearing fully-operational status.[3]

Finmark attracted the attention of Archon Richard Steiner, who launched Operation HAIFISCHFLOSSENSUPPE in 2792—a military operation intended to either seize the shipyards or destroy them, as well as preventing any efforts by Finmark to either build a new state on the Periphery border of the Lyran Commonwealth or resurrect the fallen Republic. When the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces arrived in the Finmark system and moved to seize control of the shipyards, the government on Finmark responded by detonating a nuclear weapon within the shipyards, destroying the shipyards and a Lyran corvette and badly damaging a second, whilst launching missiles and fighters from the surface of Finmark. The officer commanding the Lyran task force responded by subjecting Finmark to a day of saturation bombardment using capital weapons and strategic nuclear weapons.[4]
