Description[edit]
Premiered by the mercenary unit Kraken Unleashed as a new capability for their infantry forces, the Submersible Mechanized Infantry draws on the active shipwright industry available on Principia, the Capellan Confederation world on which Kraken Unleashed was stationed at the time.[1]
This new capability is in large part due to the development of the Harpoon parasub, a new five-man unpressurized submersible that allows the embarked squad to fire their gyroslug rifles from within the safe confines of the parasub, while adding additional punch to the squad in the form of a small torpedo launcher.[1]
The Harpoon parasubs are small enough that they can be quickly loaded into transport vehicles and deployed anywhere on a planet within a matter of hours, making them more readily deployable than heavier combat submarines while possessing enough firepower to threaten even a determined underwater BattleMech attack. When deployed the parasubs are capable of moving the Submersible Mechanized Infantry at speeds 30 km/h.[1] Since their development, Harpoon Subs have gone on the open market.[2]
Armament[edit]
Each Submersible Mechanized Infantry platoon carries a combination of twelve Gyroslug Rifles and eight two-shot SRM Launchers.[1]
