The York Regulars brigade was a late Star League Era regional BattleMech Brigade that was formed by under the leadership of the secessionist Duke of York.
History
Failed Secession
The York Regulars were originally the private forces of House Ryder. In the twenty-seventh century, the Duke of York made a bid to secede his region from the Lyran Commonwealth. The Regulars split during the rebellion, with some joining their Duke's secessionist movement and others remaining loyal to the Lyran Commonwealth. The secessionists proved unsuccessful and only a few loyalist units would survive the conflict.[1]
Star League Era
Only three of the Regulars regiments survived the events of the Duke of York's secession attempt, all of them Commonwealth loyalists. These regiments were incorporated into the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces as official members. However, by 2765 the three regiments had become the dumping grounds of the LCAF.[1]
The Twenty-third York Regulars, nicknamed the Pride, became the home of MechWarriors with the "social general" mentality. Green in their skills, they were by this time rather unorganized on the battlefield.[1]
Known as Envy, the Twenty-seventh York Regulars was staffed with elite MechWarriors who had been dumped into this regiment due their lack of social standing within the Lyran hierarchy. These warriors became a troubleshooting unit for the Archon due their excellence on the field, and many transferred to the unit on purpose to avoid the political infighting that plagued most Commonwealth units. The Twenty-seventh was the bright side of a problem brigade and was deployed on solo missions by the high command. The unit was noted for its actions routing Rim Worlds Republic raiders making incursions into the Commonwealth, forcing the Republican forces back to Star's End.[1]
The third regiment of the brigade, the Thirty-first York Regulars was known as Gluttony. The Thirty-first became the dumping grounds for low-level criminals and questionable soldiers of the armed forces. Members of House Ryder were also assigned to this unit as a punishment for their rebellion. The regiment, aside from being home of malcontents of the Brigade, was staffed with an extra platoon of military police to maintain order among the ranks. Aside from its self-destructive problems the unit performed well on the battlefield, unlike its sister unit the Twenty-third, which was barely combat ready.[1]
Succession Wars Era
The brigade remained active throughout the Second Succession War. Although popular imagination excludes them, in 2841 the Twenty-fourth York Regulars fought alongside the Fourth Royal Guards on New Caledonia. The bulk of the 24th were forced to retreat early in the defense, but shattered remnants of the unit continued to assist Colonel Tiber Hinders until at least 2843.[2] Their sister unit, the 23rd, saw action and suffered 50% casualties in the war's last major battle, the reconquest of Sakhalin.[3]
At some point prior to 3025, the brigade ceased to exist as an active combat unit.[4]

Notes
- As of 2765, the York Regulars had access to the lowest tier of equipment available for the LCAF of its era.[5]
- Although the 24th Regulars are referred to in the Second Succession War sourcebook[2], they do not appear in said sourcebook's deployment tables, which only list the 23rd, 27th, and 31st.[6]. The 24th's existence may be an error, but unless confirmed, this article presumes their inclusion was intentional. If the 24th does not exist, it is possible the 27th Regulars were the unit present on New Caledonia, given they are stationed there at the end of the war[6].
