After the ilClan Trial, Clan Wolf became the ilClan, but Khan Alaric Ward taking almost all available warriors to Terra left the Wolf Empire totally defenseless. However, it had a senior officer remaining: Star Colonel Othar. Acting on his own initiative, he took control of the Empire's resources and created two new Galaxies: Lupus and Rufus.[1]
Each Galaxy had, at most, five Clusters, due to scheduling and logistic issues, but plans didn't work out as expected. The 104th Wolf Garrison Cluster had only a single Trinary, formed when two separate catastrophic DropShip accidents claimed the lives of the Trinary's entire technician caste in one event, and half of its warriors in the second. Othar saw it as a bad omen, struck the 104th from the rolls and transferred all surviving members of the 104th to a new Cluster, the 106th Wolf Garrison Cluster, which had much more luck than its predecessor.[2]
Posted on Trellisane to protect the vital industries of the planet, the 106th suffered an assault by Zeta Battalion of Wolf's Dragoons, under contract to the Duchy of Tamarind-Abbey, on 17 February 3152. The Wolves fought a delaying action, harassing Zeta without causing them significant casualties, losing some aerospace fighters. In March, they still the Dragoons tied down, but then Zeta's leadership managed to locate the 106th's hidden supply caches and destroyed several with airstrikes, downing most of the Wolves' aerospace fighters in the process. Finally, the Dragoons' success in attacking the 106th's logistical base forced them to admit defeat and leave the planet on 22 March mostly intact, heading to Loric. Othar later congratulated the unit on their performance.[3][4]

Insignias[edit]
Rufus painted its equipment a rusty red, and the 106th added crimson highlights. Survivors from the 104th also displayed a black band on the right forearm of their 'Mechs.[7]
