Arnaud Zardetto was the commanding officer of the Second Donegal Guards during their thousandth anniversary in 3128.

History[edit]

Zardetto was well into middle-age by 3128[1] and preferred not to make speeches to his unit, leaving that to his executive officer, Friedrich Steiner. Despite this, he was tapped as the keynote speaker for a ceremony commemorating the unit.[1] Archon Melissa II and other top members of the LCAF had taken a keen interest in the event, seeing it as an opportunity to cultivate good press for the LCAF.[1]

Zardetto had been ordered by The Triad that the event must go forward regardless of potential threats; at the same time, event planners had incorporated a large amount of Star League imagery, supposedly as recognition of the Second's time in the Second Star League Defense Force. This provoked a violent response from members of Clan Jade Falcon, who conducted an orbital drop onto Kandersteg and began attacking the capital city of Thun. The Second, which was split up all across the city as part of the festivities, moved to intercept attackers, the closest of which was met by 'Mechs that had been on display for Zardetto's speech. Zardetto, in his Flamberge, Zardetto, along with Khan Patrik Fetladral and a lance of Gürteltier tanks, arrived to relieve a lance of junior officers, but not before Hauptmann Greta Wellington was killed in action.[1]

Donegal Broadcasting Company reporter K. Madeline Schroeder, who had been riding with Hauptmann Wellington, confronted Zardetto after her rescue by Fetladral. She accused him of intentionally setting his officers up to fail. At first, he responded with answers that had been written for him by his superiors, then tried to say he did his best to mitigate the risk to his troops while still staying within the confines of his orders. When neither tactic seemed to placate her, he offered her his contact information while adding that the Archon was extremely interested in how she covered this story. Schroeder accepted this offer.[1]

BattleMech/Vehicle[edit]

Zardetto piloted a Flamberge captured from the Falcons.[1]
