In every military in the Inner Sphere there are officer candidates undergoing training at a military academy. These trainees are known as Cadets. "Cadet" isn't actually a rank like Sergeant or Captain; it's usually used to indicate that the holder is undergoing training, much like the rank of Recruit. Usually they have no command responsibilities, and are only in the field to learn practical skills.

In the Clan military, all members of a warrior sibko are known as cadets. Only those that pass their Trial of Position will actually become a warrior in the Clan's touman.

Only the AFFS and LAAF include Cadet in their rank structure and provide insignias for them.

Lyran Commonwealth and Lyran Alliance[edit]

In the Lyran Alliance Armed Forces a Cadet's insignia is identical to that of a Leutnant's, but edged in red piping.[1]

Armed Forces of the Federated Suns[edit]

The AFFS cadet uses the same plain green epaulette trimmed in the appropriate branch color used by a Subaltern but they include the military academy insignia in the center of the epaulette.[2]

Notes[edit]

  • Ranks, when not preceding a name, are not capitalized.[3]
Ex: The major stood and rendered a salute to General DeChavilier.
  • Non-English ranks, with the exception of those used by the Federated Suns or Lyrans, are italicized.[3]
