History[edit]
MechWarrior "Dangerous Danny" dreamt of becoming a Solaris arena champion, and managed to find a spot with Oonthrax Stables, In August 3021, he faced an Archer in the Steiner Stadium while piloting a Merlin from Mountain Wolf BattleMechs, but unfortunately was forced to eject and concede defeat after running out of ammo. After returning to the Oonthrax Mall, enraged by his defeat and blaming his personal 'Tech Astrid Poulsen for his failure, he ordered her to reconfigure the Merlin for long range combat. Despite the changes, his next fight on the 2nd of September (once again in the Steiner Stadium) ended badly when his adversary (a Crusader) was able to bring him down, forcing him to surrender.
The following day a furious Danny, seeing his chances of a career as an arena gladiator vanishing once again blamed Astrid for his defeat, but was interrupted by the arrival of Brandon O'Leary, the CEO of the Merlin's manufacturer Mountain Wolf BattleMechs. O'Leary revealed that he had gifted the 'Mech to Oonthrax, hoping to gain publicity for his company's signature design, but that Danny's defeats jeopardised this plan.
However, far from blaming Danny, O'Leary surprised him by blaming himself for the defeats as Danny had not been trained to fully make use of the Merlin's capabilities, and offered Danny a final chance at victory by entering the The Wreckoning, a free-for-all fight. Betting the survival of his company on the outcome of the fight, O'Leary had Danny spend the next two weeks being trained by Cassandra Fox, his chief of security, in preparation for the fight.
The fight took place on the 21st of September, with both Danny and Fox piloting Merlins, and facing off against the Green Griffins (a Stable of light 'Mechs). Both Merlins fought hard, with Danny now displaying much greater discipline and calmness. Working in tandem with Fox, they downed a Locust, Stinger, and two Wasps, before the remaining Griffins focused fire on him, bring his 'Mech down. Despite this the fight ended overall in a total victory for the Merlins.
Having realized his dream and finally become a champion, Danny put an end to his gladiator career after the fight and signed on with Mountain Wolf, and departed Solaris aboard O'Leary's DropShip, the Ceridwen.[1]
